Contextual Education

I also write the content for what we call contextual education, “in context”, or just-in-time. When we can identify a trigger, such as a user doing an action that seems like their windows aren’t centered we can trigger a toast to give them instructions right when they need them.

I am working on this now but haven’t decided on an option yet. Here are some exploratory ideas for the title.

As a team we’re thinking of how to avoid popup toasts for just-in-time education (can become annoying). Given existing patterns and thinking about new ones, how should we capture the user’s attention for relevant information (sounds, interruptions, etc.)

Teaching just-in-time education when users need in most.

Appears when a user is detected to be struggling and/or has not used a feature in a long time.

User research feedback shared many participants mentioned that pop-ups should appear when a user tries something for the first time and then stop after the first action is successfully completed.

A few research participants were not interested in receiving pop-ups as they felt like they could get annoying, or they felt like this learning method was “overplayed” by other platforms.
